Sample Wedding Format

This is a sample wedding ceremony format. I would be happy to advise you in this area if you would like. The structure of the Ceremony obviously differs for mixed and other denominational Marriages

The Entrance

Generally I recommend an instrumental as the Bride walks up the aisle as it creates more impact than a song. i.e. The Bridal March, Gabriel's Oboe, Trumpet Voluntary, Air on a G string, She Moved through the Fair

The Psalm

Someone from either family generally reads the 1st reading, then I sing the Responsorial Psalm and then another family member reads the second reading. Popular choices are Be Not Afraid, Only in God, Like a shepherd, Love is Patient, On Eagles Wings

Alleluia / Gospel Acclamation

This can be either spoken or sung.

Candle Ceremony

At the beginning, on reaching the altar, you both will light a candle to symbolise that you are separate people. Directly after exchanging the rings, you will then light the centre candle from the other two, thus symbolising your new unity. This will be the first piece of music you will hear as a married couple! Song of Ruth, Wherever You Go I Will Go,

Offertory Procession

This is when the gifts of bread and wine are brought to the altar to the priest. Some music choices here are Ag Chriost an Siol, Take and Eat, This is My Body, With Thanksgiving to God

Sign of Peace

Its nice to have some quiet music here which gives you time to go down to greet, shake hands and hug your families and friends. Here are some choices for you. Make Me a Channel of your Peace (Prayer of St Francis), The Peace Prayer, The Servant Song

Communion

Ave Maria and Panis Angelicus are beautiful and fitting at Communion.

Signing Of Register

You may be signing the register on the altar or you may do so in the sacristy - either way you will need at least two pieces of music. If you want any contemporary music at the ceremony, this is a good time for it. You might want to discuss this with the Priest first. You may have a song which is special to you both?

Recessional

Again I would recommend an instrumental for walking down the aisle - however the choice is yours.
